Military Index Lookup Help

That’s really what all of this boils down to. We keep this service affordable, and all we ask is that you work with us by giving the essential details up front. When you give us the key info, the lookup stays fast, fair, and inexpensive for everyone.

We check the pension index, the compiled military service record index, and the bounty land index (if applicable) for one soldier. This is a fast lookup, not a deep dive, which is how we can keep the price at ten dollars. No detective hats required, just a straightforward check of the standard indexes.

Please share as much of the requested information as you know. If you already have the details recorded somewhere, taking a moment to include them helps us avoid guessing, or missing your soldier.  If you're putting your money on the line for this, we want to make sure it's well spent.  

This lookup does not include reading long research notes, scrolling through online family trees, or untangling multi-page ancestral backstories. We love genealogy, but this service only stays manageable at ten dollars if the essential information comes to us neatly up front.

Please note that if you're submitting details about someone, and you're not sure if they were in the war, it's going to be dificult to tell you for sure one way or the other.  We may find that name in the indexes, but we won't necessarily be able to tell you if he's the same soldier.  Your results may come back inconclusive in these cases.

If the details provided are too vague or incomplete, we may need to decline the request or ask for more information. We’re not trying to be difficult, we just want to give you the most accurate answer possible.

The lookup fee is non-refundable, even if we don’t find your soldier in the index. You’re paying for the time spent searching, not for a guaranteed match. Some individuals simply do not appear in the surviving indexes.

If the request requires more than a basic lookup, such as multiple identity problems, broad searches, or many name variations, additional fees may apply. We will always contact you before doing anything beyond the basic lookup.

Each order covers one soldier's lookup only. Trying to fit “my ancestor, and maybe one or two others” into one order gets a bit overwhelming for us. One lookup per order keeps everything fair and manageable.

Index entries vary widely in completeness, clarity, and survival. Some are detailed, some are vague, and some never existed. The results depend entirely on what remains in the historical record and the information you provide.  Some soldiers may not be in the indexes at all, for various reasons.
