Old War pensions

Do you have a military ancestor but have never found a pension file for him? Try looking in the Old War pension index on FamilySearch. https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1979425

Many of the soldiers in this collection were in the Mexican War or various Indian Wars in the first half of the 1800s, but there are some War of 1812 and Civil War soldiers represented too. Many of the soldiers in this collection were also in the regular army (as opposed to state regiments). It’s worth a shot to look through the index and see if you recognize any of your family.

If you find your ancestor in this index, let me know. These pension files are at the National Archives and I’d be able to help you get them once they reopen!
